JACKIE SADEK

Chair of the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA)

Jackie started her career in urban regeneration at the London Docklands Development Corporation before joining Stanhope plc, where she worked on Broadgate, Stockley Park, Chiswick Park and Kings Cross.

In the 1990s, she joined the site acquisition team at Tesco plc, pioneering the 'homes above shops' format, before forming the Paddington Regeneration Partnership in 1988, on behalf of all the Paddington developers and creating a fully integrated mixed use development at a national transport hub. She went on to lead a number of large-scale projects in the public sector, notably Kent Thameside and Park Royal.

Jackie has over 20 years' experience in property development, managing large-scale urban regeneration projects and public-private sector partnerships. She is expert in stakeholder engagement and in the development of complex land ownership partnerships to bring forward difficult sites, including securing funding for local economic benefits arising from the development process.

She is a national spokesperson on regeneration matters, a speaker and broadcaster on regeneration issues and the national Chair of the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA), where she has served on the Board for 14 years.

DAVID KIDNEY MP

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Department for Energy and Climate Change

David joined the DECC Ministerial team on 9 June 2009 as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State. His portfolio covers fuel poverty, skills for a low carbon economy, innovation, energy consumers, resilience and coal liabilities.

Previously David has been Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Elliot Morley, Minister of State, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in November 2005, in 2006 PPS to David Miliband, the then Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and PPS to Rosie Winterton who was Minister of State for Transport in 2008.

David graduated in Law from the University of Bristol and was a solicitor in Hanley and then Stafford between 1977 and 1997. He became MP for Stafford in 1997.

CLLR GARY PORTER

Chair Local Government Association Environment Board

Gary was first elected to South Holland DC in June 2001. In May 2003, he was elected as its Leader, a post he still holds today. In 2005, he was appointed as a Conservative member to the Local Government Association (LGA) Environment Board. In September 2009, he was appointed as its Chairman. Gary was elected as Chairman of the District Councils Network in July 2009, and was appointed as a member of the LGA National Executive in September 2009.

Gary was appointed as a regional Lead Peer for the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) in August 2009, where he Leads in the Eastern and East Midlands region for the Conservatives.

Gary is also a member of the East Midlands (shadow) Leaders Board and Vice Chairman of the East Midlands Regional Housing Group.

In July 2000, Gary Graduated (as a mature student) from de Montfort University with a BA (Hons) in History and Politics. In his spare time he is renovating (slowly) an old property in rural France.

ANDY WALFORD

Head of Sustainable Development, Audit Commission

Andy joined the Audit Commission in 2000, after 25 years as a civil engineer in local government. He is currently Head of Sustainable Development, leading on policy and knowledge management for the Commission in this area, including developing inspection and assessment methodologies and is part of the team working on the Comprehensive Area Assessment.

MAX HALLIWELL

Business Development Manager for Mitsubishi Electric Heating Systems

Prior to joining Mitsubishi Electric, Max Halliwell (B.Sc. M.Phil) spent many years at the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in Watford, working on a variety of sustainability initiatives and projects.

Max is now Business Development Manager for Mitsubishi Electric Heating Systems, which is promoting advanced air source heat pumps as the UK's answer to mass-market, low carbon residential heating.

The company has campaigned hard to gain recognition for air source heat pumps and Max has been instrumental in pushing forward changes to SAP Appendix Q.

Mitsubishi Electric's Ecodan system is manufactured in Scotland and prior to his role as business development manager, Max was Ecodan product manager.

SIMON HUGHES

Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change

Simon Hughes is Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and leads the Liberal Democrat environment team.

Simon Hughes is the longest serving member of the Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet and was Liberal Democrat Federal President from 2004-2008. He was elected to Parliament as the youngest opposition MP in 1983, on a record swing of 51 per cent. Simon was re-elected for the enlarged Southwark and Bermondsey constituency in 1983, 1987 and 1992 and re-elected for North Southwark and Bermondsey in 1997, 2001 and 2005.

Simon stood twice for the Liberal Democrat leadership in 1999 and 2005, and in 2004 was the Liberal Democrat candidate for London Mayor.

RICHARD MCCARTHY

Director General, Housing and Planning, Department for Communities and Local Government

Richard McCarthy is the Director General Housing and Planning at the Department for Communities and Local Government (Formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister). He also acts as the Department's lead official on physical regeneration, sustainable development and the environment. Before joining the Department in October 2003, Richard was the Chief Executive of the Peabody Trust since 1999, a major housing association and regeneration agency that operates across London. Prior to this he was Group Chief Executive of the Horizon Housing Group (formerly the South London Family Housing Association Group). Richard joined the Horizon Housing Group after 15 years with the Hyde Housing Association most recently as Operations Director where he had the lead role in developing a range of innovative and successful physical regeneration and development proposals.

Richard was the Chair of the National Housing Federation from 2000-2003 and is past member of the JRF Housing and Neighbourhoods Committee. He was educated at Southampton University and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing.

He received a CBE in the 2009 New Years Honours for his services to housing and planning.

PHILIP SELLWOOD

Chief, Executive, Energy Savings Trust

Philip Sellwood has been the Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust since 2003.

Philip has had an extensive commercial career in the Retail, Food and Private Equity markets. He spent 20 years with Marks & Spencer, joining as a graduate in 1977 and working in almost every part of the business. Amongst his achievements at M&S were the expansion of the £3 billion food business and the development of the innovative mail order and e-commerce activity. He left M&S in 2000, as Director of Group Strategy. Philip has other strong retail experience, most recently as Commercial Managing Director for the Thresher Group (best known for its Thresher/Victoria Wine/Wine Rack stores), where he was responsible for trading, buying, marketing and the supply chain.

In addition to strong private sector experience, Philip has demonstrated a real commitment to the public sector. During the last 15 years, he has undertaken work with the DTI/Defra, for an educational charity and as Ministerial Advisor at the Home Office. He is currently a Non-Executive Director at the Improvement and Development Agency - which works closely with the Department for Community and Local Government. Philip is a member of the UKERC (UK Energy Research Centre) and sits on the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership Board. He is a member of several influential Government Task Forces, including the Government & Industry 2016 Zero Carbon Housing Force, and as an Independent Commissioner to sit on the LGA Climate Change Commission. He is also a trustee of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Trust.

Philip has three children. His personal interests include wine, cricket, food and the arts. He graduated from Nottingham University with BEd (Hons) and has an MBA (Dist) from the University of Westminster. In addition, he is a Fellow of the British Institute of Management and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

RICHARD MILLER

Innovation Platform Leader - Low Impact Buildings Technology Strategy Board

Richard was appointed Innovation Platform Leader for Low Impact Buildings in July 2007, where he is responsible for developing and implementing a programme to enable UK industry to meet the challenge of delivering buildings with a dramatically reduced environmental footprint over the next 10 years.

Richard graduated in Chemistry from Imperial College London, and later completed a PhD in bioinorganic chemistry at the University of Manchester. After a short stint as a post-doctoral fellow, he became a lecturer in the Department of Instrumentation and Analytical Science at Manchester, researching intelligent instruments and new forms of spectroscopic analysis.

In 1986, he joined Unilever's central research group to create a measurement science team at their Port Sunlight Laboratory. He then managed the research programme for the Unilever Speciality Chemicals Group, leading to the creation of a new research focus in molecular modelling and knowledge management.

In 1993, Richard was appointed Vice President R&D for Unichema International, a Unilever company. After the sale of Unichema International to ICI in 1997, he held a joint appointment as Director for Knowledge and Sustainability in Uniqema, an ICI subsidiary, and as ICI Senior Research Fellow.

In 2001, Richard left to found Miller-Klein Associates, a consultancy focused on innovation and sustainability, and Vigorat, a specialist intranet consultancy. With both he has worked with a range of public and private organisations.

JAYNE CROSSE

Head of Strategy and External Relations, HCA Academy

Jayne has worked in regeneration for 20 years and has held a variety of senior management posts in strategy, marketing and research.

She was previously Head of Strategy and Corporate Services at the Objective 1 Programme for South Yorkshire, where she led the development of the new European investment programme for Yorkshire and the Humber and helped to lay the foundations for the sustainable economic regeneration across South Yorkshire.

Jayne moved to this role from the North West Regional Development Agency, where she took the strategic lead on the region's cluster development agenda. Prior to that she was Director of Marketing at the Inward Investment Agency for the North West.

Jayne has substantial experience of working across the public private and community sectors to build partnerships and drive initiatives forward.

In 2000, she completed a part-time PhD in Management Economics, International Business and Strategic Place Marketing from Leeds University Business School. Jayne also holds an MA (Econ) from Manchester University, which looked at place-making and the North-South divide.
